Happy 40th, UAE!

Things are working up to National Day here. It will be the UAE’s 40th anniversary on Saturday. Last night, we went out walking on the Corniche around 11:00. There’s a band shell nearby and there were DJs working the turntables. They’ve created dancing fountains out of pumps in the water off the beach which are choreographed to music.

We bobbed to the DJs, saw entertainers on stilts, a fun drum circle, and guys posing on a 3-D sidewalk painting. The best part is seeing all the cars decorated with the Emirati flag, pictures of the Sheikhs, hearts, ribbons, and pompoms in green, red, and black.

Today we’ve seen a military marching band, a helicopter hovering over the Corniche, lines of cars honking and people blowing air horns... We purchased our “I love the Emirates” scarf and a couple of little flags and watched an Airbus A-380 do several loops along the beach. We are now awaiting the evening’s fireworks. I don’t think we’ll get much sleep this weekend, but it won't be boring!
