Majlis-ing

As the weather has gotten cooler, we've seen many more people outside enjoying the fresh air. The other day we took a long walk and passed by a square of majlis cushions set around a fire ring. A majlis can mean an official meeting or it can just refer to a place to gather with friends. The casual kind usually has low cushions or couches for seating with other pillows to lean on. They can be indoors or out.

This one was set up on the ground, in a sand-covered space next to someone's house, bordering on their parking lot. It didn't offer much privacy and I thought it an unlikely spot. But the next evening, we walked past again and there was a group of men sitting around socializing with another man apparently waiting on them.

I just wished I'd had the guts to take a picture...I'll work on it or I'll get my own cushions--that's how dedicated I am.
