It was fun to explore some of the Portland culinary scene in the process of catching up with friends and family, too. We experienced a few Portlandia moments along the way. (e.g. "The emphasis of the restaurant it sustainability. Much of the produce is grown on our five-acre farm about 20 minutes from here....")
Some of the restaurants we went to include Lebanese food at Nicolas's, old favorite Screen Door, cocktails at Laurelhurst Market (too much meat on the menu for Chuck to have dinner there), delicious macaroni and cheese and Moscow Mules at the NorthWest Public House, ice cream at Salt & Straw (good) and Cool Moon (awesome!), refreshments at Elephant's Delicatessan (dang, they make a good mojito! Hmmm, sensing a theme, here...), fried clams at Mo's in chilly Cannon Beach and more seafood (loved those mussels) at Meriwether's in Northwest, a wonderful lunch at La Botegga and a tasty dinner at Provecho Mexican Grill both in Vancouver, and of course a couple of stops at Burgerville for the seasonal deep fried asparagus spears in garlic aioli along with a black bean burger (add spread!) and a Chocolate Monkey smoothie.
My mom also made my favorite poppy seed cake, so no surprise that I've put on a couple of pounds here. (I've been walking a lot, but I've got some work to do to catch up with the calories!)
